Apple is set to reveal the widely anticipated iPad 2 on Wednesday, March 2, in San Francisco, according to CNN. The news source will be reporting the unveiling in real time starting at 1 p.m. ET.

CNN anticipates the new version of the iPad, a sequel to the hugely popular 2010 tablet, to have new features. These include a smaller frame and at least one camera.

According to PC World, the major questions surrounding the new iPad include exact shipment date, the number of cameras, resolution display, price and how much lighter it may be.

"Reading in bed or on the couch with the iPad is great, but after about 20 to 30 minutes, holding the tablet up starts to double as a workout," said PC World's Ian Paul. The current iPad weights about 1.5 pounds.

PC World predicts that the iPad 2 may be in store around the beginning of May, if it follows the announcement to shipment pattern that the company had with the first iPad. The original was shipped on April 3, 2010, following a January 27 unveiling.

Despite competition swiftly entering the tablet market – such as the Motorola Xoom, BlackBerry PlayBook and HP TouchPad – Apple is still ahead of the curve, according to a separate PC World article.

“Everybody else is coming up with release one and they are coming out with release two. The challenge is how you follow that up," Carl Howe, director at research and consulting firm Yankee Group, told Business Week.

The original iPad was one of the fastest products to bring in a $1 billion revenue for its producer, and this year, Apple is poised to reach a revenue of $16.3 based on the iPad, according to Business Week.
