Consumers compare iPhone for Verizon, AT&T

No sooner had Verizon announced that it would be carrying the iPhone than people began to compare their service to AT&T, which held an exclusive deal with Apple for the popular smartphone for the last three years. While many people may think that Verizon will offer better coverage and fewer dropped calls, there are a number of other factors to take into consideration before choosing a provider, Bloomberg Businessweek reports.

One of the most important factors to consumers is price, and because Verizon has yet to release any information on monthly service charges, there is no discernable difference between the two companies' costs. However, Verizon offers an unlimited data plan for $30 for other smartphones, which is $5 more than the largest data plan on AT&T, which also has a 2 gigabyte ceiling.

AT&T has received a lot of flack over the last several years due to the amount of dropped calls, and many experts believe that Verizon has the upper-hand in terms of its network.

"Verizon planned its network with greater foresight than anyone else," ­analyst Roger Entner told the news source. "They have a very well-built network, and they don't cut corners."

While Verizon may have an advantage in terms of its network, AT&T stakes a claim to offering the iPhone with better features. The devices are nearly identical, except for one glaring difference- AT&T users will be able to access the internet and use other applications while making a phone call – Verizon users can't.

Though each version of the device offers its advantages, analysts say that there is no clear answer as to which one is better. Verizon may offer a more reliable network, but users will have to sacrifice the speed and flexibility of AT&T.
