Kevin Rose says iPad 2 due in 3 to 4 weeks

by Kelly MacNeil on January 10, 2011

Digg founder Kevin Rose announced that the much-anticipated release of the iPad 2 is scheduled to take place in the next three to four weeks.

"I have it on good authority that Apple will be announcing the iPad 2 in the next '3-4 weeks', possibly Tuesday February 1st…if you're thinking of buying an iPad, hold off for now," wrote Rose on his blog.

Rose also mentioned that the new release would feature a retina display and front and back cameras.

Rumors regarding the specifications of the new tablet computer have been rampant for the past couple of months. Other sources have speculated that the iPad 2 would include a USB port, slimmer design, larger speakers as well as an earlier-than-usual release date, PCMag.com reports.

According to the news source, Apple employees were due to face a shorter allowance for vacation time over three weeks starting at the end of January "in anticipation of some high-profile product launches," though the employees remain uninformed about which products the company is working on and when they may be effectively released.

According to Xinhuanet.com, Apple had reportedly been planning to release the iPad 2 in January but production was stalled by a delay in finalizing the hardware details.

Many other companies have unveiled their own tablet computers at the recent Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas this year, which may provide Apple with another reason to launch the new iPad sooner than later in order to retain its dominant position on the market, according to the Tech Herald.

There has been no official word from Apple regarding the release of the new tablet computer.
