Obama gets his hands dirty

During his first election campaign, President Obama engendered the hopes of generations of voters who felt disenfranchised and wanted a change. Whether he continued that sentiment through his first three years is certainly a matter of debate, but as the President eyes reelection, the tactics his campaign employs this time around may be a little different. 

In fact, Politico reports that Obama's "high command" even studied the way that President George W. Bush's campaign for reelection essentially smeared presidential candidate John Kerry to see how a president with low ratings could clamber his way back to the top.

This kind of character assassination may have been considered to be below Obama in 2008, but that seems to all be changed now. Mitt Romney is in the administration's sights especially, as he seems to be the most likely – and most formidable – contender for office. The first step strategists plan to take is to paint Romney as unlikable and uncharismatic.

Then, they want to spin his record as CEO of a venture capital firm into the picture of greed.

"He was very, very good at making a profit for himself and his partners but not nearly as good as saving jobs for communities," said David Axelrod, the president’s chief strategist, the news source reports. "His is very much the profile of what we've seen in the last decade on Wall Street. He was about making money. And that’s fine. But often times he made it at the expense of jobs in communities."

Romney has already responded with zeal, calling Obama's campaign actions "disgraceful," according to FoxNews.com. His campaign manager Matt Rhoades replied by saying that Obama will do desperate things to hang onto power.
