Last minute shoppers get deals but probably shop at local retailers and malls

Online shopping has grown in popularity year after year. If you waited until Christmas Eve to finish up some last minute shopping you probably had to rely on your local malls and retailers. Several years of bleak retail sales are projected to rise by 3.3 percent,up from an original projection of 2.2 percent, according to the National Retail Federation.

Brick and mortar chains have anticipated this last minute rush offering last minute sales and promotions. You can actually get some pretty good deals if you wait until the last minute but may not be able to pick up some hot items that are out of stock.

Some Christmas Eve snow may have some effect on last minute shopping this year, in cities like Chicago, but for the most part weather was mild and comfortable for braving the shopping crowds.

If you missed the last minute shopping, or maybe want to spend some of those gift cards you got for Christmas, you’re in luck. Most major retailers are offering both in store and online sales. You’re likely to get some of the best deals of the year in these sales.
