Wiz Khalifa arrested on drug chargers after North Carolina concert

Rapper Wiz Khalifa was arrested in Greenville, North Carolina, Monday night after police searching his tour bus reportedly found a substantial amount of marijuana. The 22-year-old rapper was booked into jail around 1:30 a.m., MTV reports. He left around 8 a.m. after posting the $300,000 bond. He has been charged with, among other crimes, felony count of trafficking in marijuana and felony count of maintaining a place for sale or storage of marijuana. Nine others were arrested as well.

Khalifa, the stage name of Cameron Thomaz, had just finished performing at East Carolina University. He has become famous for boasting about how much money he spends drugs, and even tweeted about the habit just hours before his arrest.

The concert was a stop on the rapper's Waken Baken Tour 2010 and campus police may have been tipped off by his claims of spending upward of $10,000 a month on pot. Fans at the concert filmed the arrested and later posted a video to YouTube of the rapper being taken away in handcuffs while they shouted at authorities.

A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Khalifa made a name for himself over the last several years, mostly through the internet After releasing mixtapes where he rapped over other popular songs, Khalifa broke into the mainstream with the 2009 album Deal or No Deal. Soon after the release of another mixtape made him a trending topic on Twitter and downloads for the tape, Kush and Orange Juice, became one of the most popular search topics in Google in April 2010. As such, he was named the Hottest Breakthrough MC of 2010 by MTV after his song "Black and Yellow" became one of his biggest hits.
