Though Katy Perry came home with the top prize at Sunday night's MTV Video Music Awards, it was someone else who stole the show – and they haven't even been born yet. After giving a performance, Beyonce revealed that she and husband Jay-Z are expecting their first child, a fitting announcement in a night when women won 12 of 15 categories.

Though Beyonce's announcement was the highlight, the show was flush with big moments, including a heartfelt tribute to the late Amy Winehouse. According to Entertainment Weekly, Russell Brand kicked off the homage, and was later joined by Tony Bennet, whom Winehouse collaborated with shortly before her death. Bruno Mars performed her hit song "Valerie" in a fitting end to the tribute.

"She was a true jazz artist in the tradition of Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday," Bennet said of Winehouse. "Either you've got it or you haven't got it and Amy had the whole gift, she sang beautiful."

As is usually the case, Lady Gaga turned heads by appearing throughout the entire show as her male alter-ego Jo Calderone. Her commitment to the role even continued after the show, when she answered questions as the faux-New Jersey native. Gaga, who won two awards herself, was also in character when she presented Britney Spears with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.

Other big winners on the night were Adele, who took home four awards before the ceremony for her video of "Rolling in the Deep." She also impressed the crowd with a stripped down and subdued version of her latest hit single "Someone Like You."

Additionally, Justin Bieber took home an award for Best Male Video and Foo Fighters were honored for Best Rock Video.
