Lil Wayne releases new album 2 weeks early online
Hip-hop artist Lil Wayne celebrated his 28th birthday by release his new album "I Am Not a Human Being" two weeks earlier than its scheduled release date.
The album is only available online, most notably through Apple's iTunes music store. A physical copy of the album will be available in music stores starting on October 12. This is the eighth studio album for the hip-hop artist.
Lil Wayne, which is the stage name for Dwayne Michael Carter, is currently serving a year-long sentence at New York City's Rikers Island for criminal possession of a weapon.
Recently, Wayne conducted a telephone interview with MTV to talk about the new album and admitted that releasing his new album from prison was always the plan.
"Making the album was totally fun, because I love recording," Wayne told MTV. "That's what I love to do, next to breathing. I made sure I had some material before I came in here to release while I was in here."
Early response to the new album has been mostly positive, with some critics calling it some of the most focused work of Wayne's career. One song in particular may resonate with fans, and may have some assume Wayne is talking about his current situation in prison.
The song "Drop the World" opens with the lyric "I've got ice in my viens/ Blood in my eyes/ Hate in my heart/ Love in my mind/ I seen nights full of pain/ Days are the same."
Wayne was arrested in New York City on July 22, 2007 after a performance at the Beacon Theatre. Police officers found the artist and another man smoking marijuana near Wayne's tour bus. After he was taken into custody, a .40 caliber pistol was found on Wayne, who was later charged with criminal possession of a weapon and marijuana.
It has been reported by MTV that Lil Wayne will be released from prison in November, which is four months early.
